A sleek, easy-to-use cueing device that uses focused vibrations to try and alleviate Parkinson’s symptoms but is expensive, and can be uncomfortable to wear.

Highs

  • Easy to use.
  • Sleek and robust design.
  • Can help improve dyskinesia and rigidity for some.
  • Full refund available for those who don’t find a benefit from the product.

Lows

  • High in price.
  • Adhesive pads can cause skin irritation.
  • Can restrict clothing and underwear choices (especially for women).
  • Vibration and buzzing sounds can be loud and distracting.

First impressions

Most reviewers found the device easy to set up and use. Some reviewers found the vibration buzzing noise distracting and all the female reviewers found it difficult to wear suitable clothing that they felt comfortable in while wearing the device on their chest.

Targeting symptoms

Of the 7 reviewers, only 2 found the CUE1+ helped alleviate some of their Parkinson’s symptoms. These 2 reviewers found their rigidity and dyskinesia improved while using the CUE1+. The other 5 reviewers experienced no improvement at all.

Value

Priced at £ 795, most of our review panel felt the device was too expensive, especially those who didn’t find it helped with any of their symptoms.

Questions

Is there any connection between Charco Neurotech and Parkinson’s UK?

Charco Neurotech donated 6 free CUE1+ devices to support our panel review, and we passed these directly to the reviewers.

Charco Neurotech has in the past sponsored the Parkinson’s UK Research Conference Par-Con in 2021, and the Walk For Parkinson’s event series in 2024. Our contracts make clear that the benefits are confined to the relevant event. In particular, we make clear that sponsorship will not affect the outcome of our product review process or the views we publish.

We also have a series of policies and practices in place to make sure that our review is independent of any existing relationship between our organisations or staff. If you’d like to find out more about this, you can read about it in our transparency statement.

Other frequently asked questions

What happened to the CUE1?

Until late 2023, the device sold by Charco Neurotech was the CUE1. They retired this in favour of this new, modified CUE1+ in early 2024. The older device will still work if you have one but they are no longer for sale.

Can I use CUE1 or CUE1+ if I’ve had a deep brain stimulation (DBS) treatment?

There is no definitive answer on this, unfortunately. Charco Neurotech is currently investigating the device’s compatibility with DBS. If you are unsure about using the CUE1+ device in any way, please consult your clinician.
