Community guidelines

Why we want to hear from you, who should take part and how to make your comments as useful as possible. And a few things not to do.

Guidelines for sharing content on the Tech Guide

We’ve written this page to explain why we think your views matter, who should leave a community review and how to make your comments as useful as possible to other people. It also covers some basic rules of courtesy and respect that we ask you all to follow, to make the Tech Guide somewhere safe and friendly for the whole community.

Please follow these rules (together with our Terms of Use). We moderate all comments submitted to the Tech Guide and will not publish any that break the rules.

What to include in comment

Community Views are your chance to share your experiences with others. Please be honest and unbiased, as far as you can. We expect only accounts of genuine purchases and experiences to help others learn more about the product and decide whether it is right for them.

  • You can be positive or negative about the product - we want your honest view. Focus on what you liked or disliked about it and your own experience rather than what you might have read about.
  • Comments can be as long as 280 characters. Be concise but offer as much relevant detail as you can. Think about what you want others to know about the product.
  • Avoid jargon. It’s important that everyone can understand what you write.
  • Don’t share any personal information, either your own or someone else’s. This includes names, telephone numbers, addresses or anything that might identify someone. We want to respect and protect everyone’s privacy and safety.
  • Only post a review that you have written yourself, and based on your own experience. We know you might need help writing or typing your review. That’s fine. But only post a comment that is based on your own experience and that you yourself are happy with.
  • You can share the experiences of a family member or friend, but please make this clear. But write from your own point of view - what did you see and hear, how did you feel, how did it impact you?
  • Avoid profanities and inappropriate language.
  • Don’t post anything harmful, hateful, discriminatory, defamatory or obscene.
  • Don’t make up an experience. Posting false information can lead to legal consequences. Consumers who post fake online reviews about a business could be sued for defamation or for malicious falsehood.
  • Don’t post something to deliberately upset or damage a person, organisation or business.
  • Don’t use this platform to try and recruit community members to take part in any research. We have a Research team who love to hear about new studies and you can contact them here at research@parkinsons.org.uk.

Do you work for a product company?

  • Don’t solicit reviews of your own products or offer to pay for them.
  • Do not write a review of your own product or ask an employee or affiliate to do so. Any such comments will be rejected or deleted, and may lead to further consequences.
  • Do not write a review of any product from a competitor, either positive or negative. This is also a conflict of interest.

What happens to the comments you share?

  • All comments submitted to the Tech Guide are subject to our moderation checks. If your review does not meet the above guidelines, our moderators will not approve your post and it will not be published.
  • If your review is not approved, a moderator will contact you to explain why and to give you the opportunity to correct any issues before resubmitting for approval.
  • If you repeatedly submit a comment that has been rejected (or one that’s substantially the same), we may block your account from leaving further comments.
