Statement of values

We are: people-first; uniting; pioneering; driven. This is how we show these values.

The Parkinson’s UK Tech Guide aims to uphold a set of values that lead to the behaviours we need. This statement of our values has been developed based on the common values that Parkinson’s UK as a whole upholds. We are:

  • people-first
  • uniting
  • pioneering
  • driven

We declare and aim to demonstrate these values to make sure we deliver a trustworthy platform that supports all who may use it.

People-first

The Tech Guide is run by a dedicated team within Parkinson’s UK and has clear and effective oversight from the community of people affected by Parkinson’s. This is to make sure that we always act in the best interests of people with Parkinson’s and are not unduly influenced by any commercial relationships the charity has with the companies who make and supply the products we review.

When we communicate with our readers and other members of the Parkinson’s community, we will treat everyone with respect, taking their individual circumstances into account. You can expect to be treated as a person worthy of our time and attention.

Uniting

The Tech Guide serves a wide range of people with Parkinson’s in the UK. This includes people with different ages, genders, ethnicities, living arrangements, disposable incomes, time since diagnosis and locations. In our content, in our work with the community and in our work with creators, we always work to bring people together in mutual understanding and respect, in common purpose to support the Parkinson’s community.

Pioneering

The Tech Guide is something new, and we’re not afraid to do things a little differently. But this is always in service of the community, and not innovation for innovation’s sake. We also aim to pioneer inclusion, accessibility and equality. So we will strive to make the Tech Guide (and other Parkinson’s UK resources) easier to obtain and easier to use by everyone in the community, whatever their individual needs.

Driven

The Tech Guide is focused on delivering one thing: helping more people with Parkinson’s choose appropriate devices and apps to improve their quality of life. “Appropriate” is the key here – we want to help people make the best decisions for themselves about technology, whether that’s picking something or deciding not to use tech at all. So we strive to give you what you need to choose for yourself.
